Feeding Your Rottweiler

The first and most important thing that contributes to your Rottweilers health is the food that you feed him or her. Depending on the age of the Rottweiler, they need a certain amount of meat and nutrients to keep a balanced and nutritious diet. You can choose to feed them food from the store or you can make your own if you have the time.

Learn how to read the labels on the dog food before you purchase one. It's important that the source of protein, whether it be chicken, lamb or beef, is the first ingredient listed on the label. If your Rottweiler has allergies to certain things, that's something else you need to keep an eye out for. The information on the bag should tell you how much to feed them and how often. If your Rottweiler needs to lose a little weight, you can find specialized diets for the Rottweiler breed. This is usually some sort of low calorie food.

Don't ever resort to "free feeding" your dog since this can lead to obesity which can lead to other serious health issues. They need to be on a eating schedule just like we are! I feed my dogs twice a day with occasional treats that I make myself. Carrots also make great treats for your dogs and that's a healthy option.

Exercising Your Rottweiler

A good exercise and play time routine will keep your rottweiler very happy and healthy. These dogs do require a good amount of exercise daily. The Rottweiler is a working dog breed so just lounging around all day at home doesn't cut it for them. They like to be useful and helpful. walking your rottweiler more than once a day is very beneficial to you and your dog. They need this attention and a strong relationship from you.

If you do not have a big yard for your dog, it's very important to walk them a couple of times a day even as they get older. This goes for many large dog breeds that require more exercise as they are prone to hip dysplasia and dog obesity. We have a Rottweiler that is 6 yrs. old and if she doesn't get her walk, she can get pretty frisky, more so than our other dogs.

Rottweiler's do have a tendency to put on weight if they are not exercised enough. If you are not an active person, it wouldn't be fair to get a Rottweiler. They are far from a couch potato and they crave the attention from their humans.

Rottweiler's are wonderful dogs, I own one myself. They are very protective, sometimes a bit too much but they mean well. They make wonderful companions.

Rottie's

Rottweiler's originate from Germany and were used as herding dogs. The Rottweiler breed is pretty easy to train unlike many other dogs. They want to please and protect. They can be overprotective with their master so an innocent game of rough-housing may not be the best idea. They are very loyal and always there when you need them. They make a great companion. Rottweiler's come across as tough, which they are when need be but they have a very kind heart.

The Rottweiler has a very lean and muscular build. They mostly have a black coat with defined mahogany markings on their muzzle, legs and above their eyes. The average weight for a Rottweiler is up to 95lbs. and they can stand up to 27 inches.
